Guiding You Towards Your Future

“Self-care is not selfish. It is something we must all do.”
Meet Shalanda
Nathan is a driven young scholar preparing to enter Texas State University, San Marcos in the fall, where he will pursue a degree in psychology with a focus on research. From an early age, Nathan developed a genuine fascination with the forces that shape human behavior in what motivates people, what holds them back, and how the mind navigates within its environment.
Working alongside his mother in her psychotherapy practice, Nathan has built real professional experience as her administrative assistant- drafting client correspondence, managing calls, and building the very website you're reading now. Nathan's interest in behavior and motivation is more than academic. Growing up in a household where mental health was taken seriously, and where meaningful conversations about the mind happened naturally, he developed both the vocabulary and the empathy that set serious psychology students apart before they ever step into a lab.
At Texas State, Nathan plans to pursue research opportunities that explore what drives human decision-making, persistence, and change. His long-term goal is to become a licensed psychologist with a career spent turning curiosity into science that helps people.
Welcome and thank you for your interest in TookesWilder Guidance (TWG)for your therapy and counseling needs! I seek to provide clients with a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where there is freedom to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I hold a dual Master's in Marriage & Family Therapy and Professional Counseling, and a PsyD in Grief Counseling and Clinical Psychology (ABD). I am also a Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC) and Certified Employment Interview Professional (CEIP) who loves working with adults who say, “I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.” My academic training is extensive- but so is my lived experience.
As a retired military spouse with 24 years of serving on the home front, married over twenty years, and mother to four adult children, transitions and relationship conflict are not just clinical topics for me, they are part of my own story. I bring that depth of understanding to clients navigating relationships, substance use, new motherhood, career changes, grief, and the full spectrum of life transitions. I know firsthand what it means to navigate constant change, hold a family together through uncertainty, and find your footing again on the other side.
Although the military has moved me from place to place, from the day I was born, I still enjoy traveling and meeting new people. This is part of my practice with self-care that I emphasize with every client to prioritize- your own self-care. My self-care also incorporates moments of quiet and just staying home and relaxing. Can you believe this is actually a form of productivity and self-care wrapped into one?
Although I specialize in women’s mental health, I still welcome couples as I work to engage female clients from a holistic aspect. This holistic view includes mental, physical, social, emotional, spiritual, financial, professional, and environmental areas of our lives. I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, grief, relationship issues, and life transitions. Sessions are typically 45 minutes, held weekly, and available in person or online.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange an initial conversation (free consultation), I warmly invite you to get in touch.

Sessions usually last about 45 minutes and occur weekly or on a schedule that fits your needs.
Individual therapy can help reduce overwhelm, clarify priorities, heal from stress or guilt, and build coping skills. It creates a private space to process identity shifts, set boundaries, and strengthen self-worth—so parenting and career choices align with values and well-being.

How to edit your resume
How to brand yourself
How to interview with confidence
How to set yourself up for promotions and career advancement
*Career coaching is provided for out-of-state clients
Couples counseling with a therapist who specializes in women’s mental health offers unique benefits that deepen understanding, improve communication, and support healthier relationship dynamics. It is also beneficial to both partners in that I have a deeper understanding of biological, social, and cultural factors that shape a woman’s experiences in this world and society. Although I specialize in women’s mental health, I originally trained in Marriage & Family Therapy. In working with both parties, we will address underlying drivers of conflict, improve emotional attunement with one another, and build a partnership grounded in fairness, safety, and mutual support.
A few issues we can collaborate on include:
Caregiving burdens
Parenting transitions (pregnancy through empty-nest)
Trauma-related intimacy issues
Resentment issues
Communication Issues/Learning to Hear One Other
